This Props and Pistons Festival will feature The Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association
showcasing the iconic Harvards. The single-engine advanced trainer
aircraft was widely used during World War II. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-1340
Wasp radial engine, which produces about 600 horsepower and allows the aircraft to reach
speeds of approximately 208 miles per hour (335 kilometers per hour).
The Harvard holds great historical significance as it served as the primary trainer for
thousands of pilots during WWII. Its robust design, reliability, and excellent flight characteristics made it an ideal platform for teaching essential flying skills, preparing pilots for combat aircraft. This aircraft played a vital role in ensuring that U.S. and Allied pilots were well-trained before heading into wartime missions.
The Aircraft Association was founded in honor of military pilots who served during WWII,
as a way to preserve and celebrate their legacy. It was established by pilots Norm Beckham,
Len Fallowfield, and Bob Hewitt, who wanted to keep the history and memory of WWII aviation alive. You can see this magnificent plane at the Props and Pistons Festival- come hear their sound!
